Scintigraphy

Injection of a radioactive tracer followed by imagery to detect areas of pathology such as arthritis, fracture, osteomyelitis, or cancerous tumors of the bone.

The injection and subsequent detection of radioactive isotopes to create images of body parts and identify body functions and diseases.

In nuclear medicine, a diagnostic procedure referred to as scintigraphy, or commonly known as a bone scan, is employed to identify irregularities in the bone remodeling process. This test entails the injection of radioactive technetium into the patient, followed by the utilization of a gamma camera to scan the body. It is important to note that scintigraphy should not be conflated with bone density tests.

An infrequent alternative term for radionuclide scanning is renal scintigraphy, which is also referred to as renography.
