A genus of hard ticks, several species of which are responsible for transmitting tick * typhus. The bite of this tick can also give rise to a serious and sometimes fatal paralysis.
A genus of ticks that includes the Lone Star tick (A. americanum ) a nd the Gulf Coast tick (A. maculatum). Some ticks from this genus cause tick bite paralysis and are vectors of tularemia and human ehrlichiosis.
