A small hairy fly of the widely distributed genus Phlebotomus. Adult sandflies rarely exceed 3 mm in length and have long slender legs. The bloodsucking females of certain species transmit various diseases, including ‘leishmaniasis, sandfly fever, and bartonellosis.
