A person who has been granted status (fellowship) higher than that of membership by an association, for example, the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE) or the American College of Physicians (ACP). The status is usually given after the candidate has met strict requirements for education and performance. The term “fellow” is also used for certain individuals whose positions are supported by special stipends for advanced study and research, such as a “fellow in cardiology.”
A physician who has received primary training in a medical specialty and is pursuing further specialized training.
