A benign tumor of the skin. It was previously used to denote skin cancer.
A benign growth consisting of cells originating from the outer layer of the skin is referred to as an acanthoma. There are different types of acanthoma, with the face being the most common location where they appear, typically developing within hair follicles. They can also occur on the legs.
