Aspartic acid

One of the non-essential amino acids commonly occurring in the L-form. It is found in animals and plants, especially in sugar cane and sugar beets. It may be a neurotransmitter.

Aspartic acid also referred to as aspartate, is a nonessential amino acid required for the synthesis of proteins. It is also required for the production of purines and pyrimidines and is essential for the elimination of nitrogen from the body through the production of urea.


A nonessential amino acid, HOOC . CH2 . CH(NH2)-COOH. It is a product of pancreatic digestion.
