Semicircular canals

Three hollow, fluid-filled tubes in the inner ear that help provide a sense of balance.

The inner ear encompasses specific structures that play a crucial role in preserving equilibrium and balance within the body.

An inner ear component involved in maintaining balance. Each ear comprises three semicircular canals positioned at right angles to each other and linked through a vestibule. These fluid-filled canals house tiny hairs responsible for sensing movement and acceleration. They relay this data to the brain through the vestibular nerve.

The ear’s labyrinth comprises three semicircular canals, each taking up a distinct spatial plane. These canals serve as the body’s balance organ for posture. Within each canal is a fluid that, when the head moves in a specific direction, circulates within the canal. This circulation stimulates tiny nerve fibers, transmitting impulses to the brain. These signals are interpreted as movement, enabling even a visually impaired person to discern their balance status.
