Which is used depends on taxonomic judgement. In such cases the plant pathologist has no obligation, other than taxonomic conviction, to adopt the new name. It is usually good practice to take a conservative attitude to taxonomic name changes and to delay making a change in nomenclatural usage until it has become clear that the change in question is acceptable to taxonomists at large.
