Pseudomonas

A genus of gram-negative, aerobic, rod-shaped bacteria widely distributed in nature. Some species are pathogenic for humans, animals, and plants.

A genus of rodlike motile pigmented Gram-negative bacteria. Most live in soil and decomposing organic matter; they are involved in recycling nitrogen, converting nitrates to ammonia or free nitrogen. The species P. aeruginosa is pathogenic to man, occurring in pus from wounds; it is associated with urinary tract infections. P. pseudomallei is the causative agent of melioidosis.

A genus of gram-negative, aerobic, motile bacilli with polar flagella. Most are saprophytic, living in soil and decomposing organic matter. Some produce blue and yellow pigments.

These rod-shaped bacterial species dwell in soil and certain decaying substances. Among them, Pseudomonas aeruginosa has the potential to induce illnesses in humans and can be found in the discharge from wounds.
