Cardiac muscle

The muscle of the heart, striated muscle; smooth muscle.

A muscle in the heart which makes the heart beat.

Special striated muscle of the heart, involuntary in function; one of three major types of muscle (the other two are smooth muscle and striated muscle). The heart’s striated muscle is unusual because involuntary muscle is usually smooth.

The specialized muscle of which the walls of the ‘heart are composed. It consists of a network of branching elongated cells (fibers) whose junctions with neighboring cells are marked by irregular transverse bands known as intercalated disks.

The muscle, unique to the heart, which comprises the walls of the atria and ventricles. It consists of long, broadening cells (fibres) with special physiological characteristics which enable them to keep contracting and expanding indefinitely.

The involuntary muscle that is the heart. This type of muscle is not found in any other part of the body.
