Peripheral nervous system (PNS)

Connects the brain and spinal cord with receptors, muscles, and glands.

Nerves that are located outside the brain and the spinal cord and connect the spinal cord to the effectors and receptors.

All the nerves in different parts of the body which are linked and govyerned by the central nervous system.

One of the two main divisions of the human nervous system (the other being the central nervous system); the sensory and motor nerves outside the brain and spinal cord. It consists of 12 pairs of cranial nerves and 31 pairs of spinal nerves and the branches of these nerves that innervate the organs of the body. Sensory, or afferent, peripheral nerves transmit impulses to the central nervous system (the brain and spinal cord); motor, or efferent, peripheral nerves transmit impulses from the central nervous system to the muscles and organs of the body. Peripheral nerves that regulate respiratory, endocrine, cardiovascular, and other automatic functions comprise the autonomic nervous system.

Nerves and ganglia outside the brain and spinal cord.

The part of the nervous system that consists of all the nerves that emerge from the central nervous system and branch throughout the body.

All parts of the nervous system lying outside the central nervous system (brain and spinal cord). It includes the cranial nerves and spinal nerves and their branches, which link the receptors and effector organs with the brain and spinal cord.

The portion of the nervous system outside the central nervous system: the 12 pairs of cranial nerves and 31 pairs of spinal nerves. These nerves contain sensory and somatic motor fibers and the motor fibers of the autonomic nervous system.

The part of the nervous system made up of the nerves that connect the brain and spina! cord to other parts of the body.

System of nerves that connects the peripheral (outer) parts of the body to the central nervous system; it has both sensory and motor nerves.

All the nerves that connect the brain and spinal cord to other parts of the body.

A network of nerve pathways that sends messages to the brain about the body’s condition.

The peripheral nervous system encompasses the portion of the nervous system that extends beyond the brain and spinal cord. It comprises sensory, motor, and autonomic nerves.

The peripheral nerve system extends from the central nervous system, comprising the brain and spinal cord, reaching out to the muscles, skin, internal organs, and glands.
