Cassette

A “package” of genetic material (containing more than one gene) that is inserted into the genome of a cell via gene splicing techniques. May include promoter(s), leader sequence, termination codon, etc.

A device used in radiography for holding a sheet of x-ray film and a set of screens. The cassette may also have a grid.

A thin light-proof box in which a piece of X-ray film is placed during the taking of an X-ray. It usually contains special screens that fluoresce under the influence of X-rays and so intensify the image that is formed on the film.

A flat, lightproof box with an intensifying screen, for holding x-ray film.

A radiographic cassette, composed of front and back structures joined by hinges, that accommodates intensifying screens. These screens, mounted within the cassette, flank the x-ray film, thus preparing the holder for utilization in the imaging process.
