Treatment modality where a patient is placed in a pressurized (hyperbaric) chamber that allows for the delivery of oxygen in high concentrations for therapeutic benefits. It is sometimes used prior to implant therapy for patients who underwent radiation therapy in the head and neck areas, to reduce the risks of osteoradionecrosis.
In a specialized chamber, the patient is exposed to pure oxygen at a pressure three times higher than the standard atmospheric pressure. This accelerated administration of oxygen aids in addressing severe oxygen deprivation more swiftly.
