Pharmacopeia

An official publication of drugs in common use in a given country.

A book containing a list of the drugs used in medicine, with details of their formulae, methods of preparation, dosages, standards of purity, etc.

A document containing recipes for the preparation (compounding) of medicinal drugs and also standards for their strengths and purities. Many nations adopt official pharmacopeias. In the United States, the United States Pharmacopeia Convention (USPC) issues the Pharmacopeia of the United States of America (USP), which is a legal standard. By contrast, a formulary need not contain the information about strengths and purities.

An authorized treatise on drugs and their preparation, especially a book containing formulas and information that provide a standard for preparation and dispensation of drugs.
