Stapedectomy

Excision of the stapes in the ear in order to improve hearing, especially in cases of otosclerosis. The stapes is replaced by a prosthesis.

A surgical operation to remove the stapes.

Surgical removal of the stapes of the middle ear, performed to restore hearing in cases where the stapes has become ossified, fixed, and unable to vibrate in response to sound waves.

A surgical procedure to treat hearing loss caused by otosclerosis, an inherited disorder of the middle ear. Stapedectomy is performed through the ear canal under local anesthesia. Stapedectomy is a well-established surgical procedure with a high rate of success, but improvement in hearing may vary from one person to another.

Surgical removal of the third ear ossicle (stapes): part of the treatment for deafness due to otosclerosis.

An operation on the middle ear to remove the stapes and replace it with an artificial alternative. It is aimed at treating deafness caused by otosclerosis in which the stapes becomes fixed by an overgrowth of bone, preventing it from transmitting sound. Stapedectomy improves hearing in around 90 per cent of those people who have the operation.

Excision of the stapes to improve hearing, especially in cases of otosclerosis. In patients with severely impaired hearing, the stapes is replaced by a prosthesis which is placed in the ear.

A surgical procedure to replace the stapes, the innermost of the three bones responsible for conducting sound in the middle ear, with an artificial device to restore its function. This operation is commonly performed to treat hearing loss caused by otosclerosis.
