Sexual reproduction

The fusion of nuclei of different mating types, followed by meiosis to produce spores.

The process by which half of the genes of each parent organism combine to create a new individual.

Reproduction in which gametes from two individuals fuse together.

Production of a child through the fertilization of a woman’s egg with a man’s sperm. In sexual intercourse, a woman’s vagina is penetrated by a man’s penis ejaculates, or releases a thick fluid called semen. This fluid contains millions of sperm, which then may travel through the uterus into a fallopian tube, find and fertilize an egg, and result in an embryo and pregnancy. Sexual reproduction can also take place through artificial insemination (the introduction of semen via an artificial method).

Reproduction by means of the union of germ or sex cells. Usually a male cell (spermatozoon) fuses with a female cell (egg or ovum).

The mechanism of generating offspring through the merging of two cells from distinct individuals is termed “reproduction.” In humans, this occurs through the union of a sperm cell and an egg cell. This union, known as fertilization, can occur naturally through sexual intercourse or be facilitated through artificial insemination.
