Domiciliary care facility

A nonmedical institution providing room, board, laundry, some forms of personal care, and usually recreational and social services. Licensed by state departments of social services; these facilities are not eligible for Medicare or Medicaid reimbursement, intermediate care facility; skilled nursing facility.


A home providing mainly custodial and personal care for persons who do not require medical or nursing supervision, but may need assistance with activities of daily living because of a physical or mental disability. This may also be referred to as a sheltered living environment.
