A treatment or drug which relieves symptoms but does nothing to cure the disease which causes the symptoms. For example, a painkiller can reduce the pain in a tooth, but will not cure the caries which causes the pain.


Bringing relief, but not curing (e.g., drugs that provide relief from pain and other symptoms of a disease but do not cure the disease).


A medicine that gives temporary relief from the symptoms of a disease but does not actually cure the disease. Palliatives are often used in the treatment of such diseases as cancer.


A term applied to treatment that eases the symptoms of a disorder rather than curing the condition.


Relieving or alleviating without curing.


Referring to any form of treatment administered to alleviate the symptoms of a disease rather than to provide a complete cure.


A substance or remedy that provides relief and comfort but doesn’t heal or cure.
