A skin test to find out if a person is immune to tuberculosis. Tuberculin (a preparation derived from the tubercle bacillus) is injected via punctures in the skin of the forearm, using a spring-loaded gun-like instrument, with six very short needles set in circular form. A positive test, indicated by a red, raised reaction of the skin, demonstrates immunity. If the result is negative, the subject can be given bcg vaccine.
