A rare condition in which a girl’s hymen has no central opening.
A solid membrane covering the opening of the vagina. If this condition is noticed in infancy or childhood, a doctor can remedy this by cutting an opening in the central part of the membrane.
A hymen without an opening. Menstruation occurs, but the blood cannot escape from the vagina because of the obstruction of the hymen. The treatment is surgical incision of the hymen.
A hymen that fully covers the vaginal opening may need to be surgically removed (hymenectomy) to allow menstrual blood to flow out.
