A longitudinal or cross-sectional aggregation of medical care data. Patient profiles list all of the services provided to a particular patient during a specified period of time. Physician, hospital, or population profiles are statistical summaries of the pattern of practice of an individual physician, a specific hospital, or the medical experience of a specific population. Diagnostic profiles are a subcategory of physician, hospital, or population profiles with regard to a specific condition or diagnosis.

A set of data, usually in graph or table form, which indicates to what extent something has the same characteristics as a group tested or considered standard.
The amount that other people notice somebody or something.
A statistical report showing certain predefined information about a given subject. The most common profiles in health care are physician profiles, which display such information as the numbers of patients cared for, their average length of stay in the hospital, the physician’s use of various drugs and other treatments, and, more recently, the physician’s expensiveness. Physicians are compared with each other on these attributes in an effort to encourage efficiency and frugality.
