A minimum aggregation of uniformily defined and classified statistics that describe an element, episode or aspect of health care, e.g. Si hospital admission, ambulatory encounter, or a physician or hospital. Such data sets are used for evaluation, research and similar purposes.
A specified set of items of information. The data set for a person’s address, for example, may be name, street address, city, state, and ZIP code. In the hospital, the term “data set” would be applied, for example, to a discharge abstract and to a patient’s bill. In this illustration, the nucleus of both data sets is, at a minimum, the Uniform Hospital Discharge Data Set (UHDDS) specified by the federal government.
