A disease of the heart muscle arising as a result of long-term heavy alcohol consumption.
Heart muscle damage caused by years of heavy alcohol usage. Affected patients have enlarged (dilated) hearts and left ventricular failure. Abstinence from alcohol may halt or reverse the course of the illness in some individuals.
