Inflammation, thinning and shrinking of the tissues of the vagina caused by a lack of oestrogen.
Inflammation of the vagina usually resulting from the reduction in estrogen after menopause that can cause the walls of the vagina to become drier, thinner, less elastic, and more likely to bleed. Vaginal dryness can cause irritation, burning, or itching and a feeling of pressure, all of which can interfere with a woman’s sexual enjoyment. To relieve the symptoms, treatment may involve topical hormonal creams (inserted vaginally) or hormone therapy to restore estrogen levels.
Postmenopausal thinning and dryness of the vaginal epithelium related to decreased estrogen levels.
