Hydrocyanic acid

An acid which forms cyanide.

An intensely poisonous volatile acid that can cause death within a minute if inhaled.

A colorless, extremely poisonous, highly volatile liquid that occurs naturally in plants but can be produced synthetically. It has many industrial uses: electroplating, fumigation, and production of dyes, pigments, synthetic fibers, and plastic. Exposure of humans to 200 to 500 parts of hydrocyanic acid per 1,000,000 parts of air for 30 min is fatal. It acts by preventing cellular respiration.
