Acanthocyte

Abnormal red blood cell (erythrocyte) with irregular projections of protoplasm, giving it a spiny or thorny appearance.

An abnormal erythrocyte that in wet preparations has cytoplasmic projections so that the cell appears to be covered with thorns.
