The body which reviews educational programs in surgical technology, using standards found in Essentials and Guidelines of an Accredited Educational Program for the Surgical Technologist (Essentials), which were adopted by the American College of Surgeons (ACS), the American Hospital Association (AHA), the American Medical Association (AMA), and the Association of Surgical Technologists (AST). The results of the reviews are reported to the AMA’s Committee on Allied Health Education and Accreditation (CAHEA) for accreditation of the programs.
