Acid etching

Act of modifying an implant surface by exposure to an acidic medium with the intention of enhancing osseointegration.

A dental procedure used to prepare the surface of tooth enamel for better retention in bonding material to the tooth structure. Phosphoric acid is placed on the enamel surface. The acid removes the organic portion of the enamel, leaving microscopic pores (micropores) in the enamel approx. 5 pm in length. The micropores allow for improved retention of dental restorations.
