Acute myelocytic leukemia

Malignant disease of blood-forming tissues characterized by uncontrolled proliferation of granular leukocytes (a type of white blood cell). It may occur at any age but is most frequent in adolescents and young adults. Onset, which often is gradual, is marked by spongy, bleeding gums; anemia; fatigue; bone pain; and recurrent infection. Treatment includes chemotherapy, repeated blood transfusions, immunotherapy, and bone marrow transplants.


A cancerous blood disease in which there is an increase of white (myelocyte) blood cells.
