Agglutination test

Blood test used to identify unknown antigens. A sample with the unknown antigen is mixed with a known antibody; whether or not agglutination occurs helps in identifying the unknown antigen. The test is useful in determining susceptibility to certain diseases, in blood typing, and in tissue matching (e.g., for transplants).

A widely used test in which adding an antiserum containing antibodies to cells or bacteria causes them to agglutinate.
