Alkalemia

State of higher than normal alkalinity in the blood (representing a lower concentration of hydrogen ions), state in which the of the blood is higher than the normal range (7.35-7.45).

Abnormally high blood alkalinity. This may be caused by an increase in the concentration of alkaline substances and/or a decrease in that of acidic substances in the blood.

An increase in the arterial blood pH above 7.45 due to a decrease in the hydrogen ion concentration or an increase in hydroxyl ions. The blood is normally slightly alkaline.
