Aluminum

Common metallic element. Aluminum preparations are widely used in astringents, deodorants, antiperspirants, antiseptics, and antacids.

A silvery-white metallic element found in abundance in the Earth’s crust. Aluminum is never found in a pure form but as a constituent of many minerals, such as bauxite, mica, and feldspar. It is used to form many alloys (metal combinations) that are lightweight but hard and resistant to corrosion. Aluminum foil is used as a wrapping material, and aluminum powder is used in paints for buildings. Aluminum is the main ingredient in some antacids. Too much aluminum in the body can cause brain injury, resulting in dementia.

A silver-whitish metal used to filter low energy radiation out of the x-ray beam; atomic mass 26.9815, atomic number 13.

Aluminum (symbol Al) is a lightweight, nonmagnetic material with an atomic number of 13. It finds extensive usage in various applications such as radiographic filters, penetrometers, and electronic equipment.
