Narrowing of the anus, which is also known as anal stricture. In this condition, the anal opening is too small to permit the normal passage of feces. Symptoms of anal stenosis include constipation and pain during defecation. In many cases, anal stenosis is present from birth. Sometimes, it is the result of inflammatory bowel DISEASE (IBD). The chronic inflammation characteristic of IBD causes scarring in the anus that can eventually lead to stenosis.
Tightness of the anus, also referred to as anal stricture or anal stenosis, hinders the normal passage of feces, resulting in symptoms such as constipation and pain during defecation.
Anal stenosis can manifest either from birth or as a result of various conditions that lead to scarring, such as anal fissures, colitis, or anal cancer. In some cases, the condition may develop following surgical procedures performed on the anus, such as those carried out to treat hemorrhoids.
The treatment for anal stenosis typically involves anal dilatation, a procedure aimed at expanding or enlarging the anus to alleviate the condition.
