Anhidrosis

Decreased or absence of the secretion of sweat.


A condition in which sweating by the body is reduced or stops completely.


Failure of sweat gland function.


An abnormal lack of sweating in response to heat. Sweating is the body’s way of cooling itself, and its absence can result in potentially life threatening overheating. Anhidrosis can be seen in people who have a severe neck injury, diabetes mellitus, dehydration, or a heat illness. Treatment of anhidrosis is with drugs to stimulate sweating.


Abnormal diminution in the secretion of sweat. This may be caused by disease or by a congenital defect.


Diminished or complete absence of secretion of sweat. It may be generalized or localized, temporary or permanent, disease related or congenital.


Deficiency in perspiration, often a result of fever or certain skin diseases.
