Anovulatory menstruation

Menstruation occurring without discharge of an ovum from the ovary, i.e., without ovulation.

Anovulatory menstruation refers to a menstrual cycle in which ovulation, the release of an egg from the ovary, does not occur. This condition often arises due to decreased production of the hormone estrogen and commonly takes place during the early and late stages of reproductive life, which is considered normal. However, anovulatory menstruation can also indicate an underlying hormonal abnormality.
