Antibiogram

A laboratory technique which establishes to what degree an organism is sensitive to an antibiotic.

A record of the susceptibility of specific pathogenic bacteria to antibiotics. Such susceptibility varies from hospital to hospital, state to state, and country to country. Antibiograms are constructed from cultural and other data accumulated in clinical laboratories. They help clinicians decide which antibiotics to use when treating suspected infections and help public health agencies track the antibiotic resistance of microorganisms over time.
