Artificial limb

Artificial replacement for part or all of a human arm or leg.

A manufactured prosthetic replacement for an arm or leg, worn when all or part of the limb has been lost due to injury, accident, disease, or birth defect. A person requiring an artificial limb can discuss his or her needs and preferences with both the physician and the technician who will custom design the prosthesis.

A prosthetic limb, referred to medically as a prosthesis, designed to replace a limb that has been absent since birth or removed due to amputation.

Prosthetic limbs empower individuals to engage in a variety of everyday tasks, including walking. Furthermore, certain prosthetic arms and hands incorporate electronic components that sense and react to signals from the wearer’s nervous system. This technological feature enables the user to execute intricate hand and finger movements, such as grasping objects.
