As a science, astrology has been utilized to predict or affect the destinies of individuals, groups, or nations by means of what is believed to be a correct understanding of the influence of the planets and stars on earthly affairs. As a pseudoscience, astrology is considered to be diametrically opposed to the findings and theories of modern Western science.
Astrology has a long history and has been and still is influential in every society, exerting a sometimes extensive and peripheral influence on many civilizations, both ancient and modern. Although hotly contested by modern science, it is nevertheless subscribed to by many people probably more than half the world’s population, albeit without any great commitment.
