Asystole

The absence of contractions of the heart; cardiac standstill.


Faulty or absent contraction of ventricles, the large chambers of the heart.


A state in which the heart has stopped beating.


Absence of heart beat; failure of the ventricles of the heart to contract, cardiac arrest,


A condition in which the heart no longer beats, accompanied by the absence of complexes in the electrocardiogram. The clinical features, causes, and treatment are those of ‘cardiac arrest.


Cardiac standstill; absence of electrical activity and contractions of the heart evidenced on the surface electrocardiogram as a flat (isoelectric) line during cardiac arrest. In most instances, asystole is an electrocardiographic confirmation that a patient has died.


Incomplete contraction of the heart during a heartbeat.
