Atomic number

The number of protons in a nucleus of an element ranging from 1 for hydrogen to 106. The number indicates the position of an element in the periodic table and determines its chemical properties and behavior.

Number indicating the number of protons in the nucleus or the number of electrons in an uncharged atom.

The number of negatively charged electrons in an uncharged atom, or the number of protons in the nucleus. This number determines the position of elements in the periodic table of elements.

The symbol “Z” represents the number of protons present in the nucleus of an atom. This value is unique to each element and remains constant. In a neutral atom, the number of electrons outside the nucleus is also equal to the number of protons.
