Attributable risk

In epidemiology, quantifying the amount of risk due to a particular characteristic. It is calculated by subtracting the incidence rate for the group that does not have the characteristic from the rate for the group with the characteristic.


A measure of the excess risk of disease due to exposure to a particular risk. The excess risk of bacteriuria in oral contraceptive users attributable to the use of oral contraceptives is 1,566 per 100,000.
