  • Profunda

    Referring to blood vessels which lie deep in tissues. Describing blood vessels that are deeply embedded in the tissues they supply. Deep seated; term applied to certain deeply located blood vessels.  

  • Profound

    Very great or serious.  

  • Professional misconduct

    Actions which are considered to be wrong by the body which regulates a profession, e.g. an action by a doctor which is considered wrong by the Professional Conduct Committee of the General Medical Council. Behavior that is professionally unsuitable, potentially dangerous to patients, incompetent, disruptive, abusive, or illegal.  

  • Professional conduct committee

    A committee of the General Medical Council which decides on cases of professional misconduct.  

  • Professional body

    An organisation which acts for all the members of a profession.  

  • Proenzyme

    The first mature form of an enzyme, before it develops into an active enzyme. The inactive form in which certain enzymes (e.g. digestive enzymes) are originally produced and secreted.   • Productive cough

    A cough where phlegm is produced. A cough in which mucus or an exudate is expectorated.  

  • Product

    Something which is produced. A result or effect of a process. Something which is made (or grown). Often used in a marketing context to refer to whatever is sold to the consumer; in this context, “product” may mean either a tangible item or a service.     To make or cause something.  

  • Prodromal rash

    A rash which appears as a symptom of a disease before the major rash. A rash that precedes the true rash of an infectious disease.
