  • Implant prosthodontics

    The area of prosthodontics that deals with the replacement of maxillofacial structures (including teeth) by prostheses that attach to dental implants.  

  • Implant prosthesis

    Any prosthesis (fixed, removable, or maxillofacial) that utilizes dental implants in part or whole for retention, support, and stability. Slang usage: a prosthesis is not an implantable device. Dental prostheses such as crown and other fixed dental prostheses, removable dental prostheses as well as maxillofacial prostheses can be supported and retained in part or whole…

  • Implant placement, with maxillary sinus floor elevation

    Implants may be placed simultaneously with a sinus floor elevation when the residual bone height is sufficient for primary implant stability. Otherwise, a staged approach must be considered.  

  • Implant placement, in irradiated bone

    Irradiated cancer patients are at higher risk for failure to achieve osseointegration. However, the use of long implants, fixed retention, and adjuvant hyperbaric oxygen therapy has resulted in a decrease of implant failures. Clearly, the clinician and patient should be aware of the considerations involving irradiated patients, and a team approach should be applied.  

  • Implant placement

  • Implant periapical lesion

    Radiolucency localized at the apex of a root‐form dental implant. It can be asymptomatic or symptomatic. The symptoms of the acute form may include a fistula with purulent exudate and/or pain on palpation.  

  • Bar‐clip attachment and i. o

    Removable prosthesis covering and supported by endosseous implants. The implants are connected by a bar, and support is provided by associated hard and soft tissue structures. The overdenture receives its retention in part by a clip embedded in the impression surface of the acrylic resin base.  

  • Implant overdenture

    Complete or partial removable prosthesis that covers and is supported by dental implants, individual or splinted, and related tissue structures.  

  • Subperiosteal implant

    An implant placed on the surface of the maxillary or mandibular bone for support and attachment of a prosthesis. Implant designed to rest on the surface of bone, under the periosteum. It consists of a customized casting, made of a surgical‐grade metal or alloy. Permucosal abutments, posts and intraoral bars are designed for prosthetic retention.…

  • Ramus frame implant

    A full arch implant of tripoidal design consisting of a horizontal supragingival connecting bar with endosseous units placed into the two rami and symphyseal area.
