Autologous

Pertaining to self; defining products or components derived or transferred from one anatomic location to another within the recipient.

Referring to a graft or other material coming from the same source.

In medicine, a general term referring to a type of transplant or blood transfusion that comes from the person’s own body. Tissue, bone marrow, or blood is often taken days or weeks earlier and stored for use in a specific operation. By contrast, a transplant or transfusion from a donor whose makeup is similar to that of the patient is called allogenic.

Related to the self. The term is found most frequently in autologous blood transfusion, a transfusion using the person’s own blood which was stored in advance for that purpose. Often such blood is stored in the frozen state in an autologous frozen blood program.

Originating within an individual, especially a factor present in tissues or fluids.
