An infusion into a person of their own blood.
Reintroduction into a patient of blood that has been lost from the patient’s circulation during surgical operation. The blood is collected by suction during the operation, filtered to remove bubbles and small blood clots, and returned into one of the patient’s veins through a drip.
A method of returning the patient’s own extravasated blood to the circulation. Blood shed during surgery, e.g., during the repair of a ruptured spleen, is collected during the operation and returned intravenously into the circulation of the patient.
