Avascular necrosis

Cell death that occurs as a result of inadequate blood supply.

A condition in which tissue cells die because their supply of blood has been cut.

Death of any tissue due to loss of blood supply, usually due to trauma or congenital blood vessel abnormalities. For example, fractures of the navicular bone of the wrist are at a high risk for avascular necrosis because of a perilous blood supply.

A condition characterized by the death and subsequent collapse of bone tissue due to the temporary or permanent interruption of its blood supply. This condition is also referred to as osteonecrosis.

Necrosis refers to the death of cells in body tissues due to damage to the blood vessels that provide nourishment to the affected area. When the blood supply to a particular region is compromised, the cells within that area cannot receive adequate oxygen and nutrients, leading to their demise. Necrosis is a consequence of impaired blood flow and can occur as a result of various factors, such as injury, infection, or underlying medical conditions.
