Basal cell

A cell from the stratum germinativum.

A type of cell in the deepest layer of the epidermis.

A small, round cell found in the lower part (or base) of the epidermis, the outer layer of the skin.

Within the epidermis, the outermost layer of the skin, a specialized cell known as a keratinocyte resides specifically in the basal layer, which happens to be the deepest among the five layers of cells.
