Bilateral

Having or occurring on two sides, as in bilateral hearing loss; having two layers.

Arranged on opposite sides; in pollen, a grain with two vertical planes of symmetry and the equatorial axes of different length.

Affects both sides of the body equally.

One, and only one, line through the center will divide the flower into 2 mirror images. Example: an orchid flower.

Having two sides. Bilateral kidney disease, for example, affects both the right and left kidneys.

Relating to or affecting both sides of the body or of a tissue or organ or both of a pair of organs (e.g. the eyes, breasts, or ovaries).

A term denoting the impact on both sides of the body or on paired organs, such as both ears in the case of bilateral deafness, is “bilateral.”
