Blast cell

A large, rapidly dividing cell that develops from a B cell (B lymphocyte) in response to an antigenic stimulus. The blast cell then becomes an antibody-producing plasma cell.

A newly formed cell of any type. Large numbers of blast cells in the peripheral blood indicate that the bone marrow is producing a high level of the particular cell (e.g., lymphoblast [lymphocyte], monoblast [monocyte]).

An embryonic cell that undergoes further maturation to become a specialized cell is referred to as a blast cell. As an illustration, in the bone marrow, white blood cells originate as blast cells and eventually differentiate into various types of fully developed white blood cells that are subsequently released into the bloodstream. The presence of specific blast cells can indicate the presence of an illness. For instance, blast cells are detected in the blood of individuals with acute leukemia.
