Bouquet garni

A combination of herbs tied together in thin cloth, used to season foods such as soups and stews; usually removed before serving.

This culinary concoction is comprised of a grouping of fragrant botanicals, typically containing parsley, thyme, and bay leaves, and typically encased within a sachet made of cheesecloth. Its primary function is to imbue soups, stews, sauces, and other such dishes with an enhanced level of flavor.

A bouquet garni is a fragrant assortment of herbs that is employed to impart a nuanced flavor to soups, stews, and sauces. Typically, this bouquet includes a sprig each of parsley and thyme, a bay leaf, and occasionally other herbs or even a piece of celery and leek. To prepare a bouquet garni, these herbs are bundled together, ideally tied within a piece of cheesecloth, and then simmered within the cooking liquid alongside other ingredients. Prior to serving, the bouquet garni is removed from the pot, allowing its flavors to be fully infused into the dish.
